This is a totally unfair suggestion, but here goes:-

Prosteel has automated our design procedures to a huge degree, only end-plate bolted moment connections to join beams together on poor access sites have to be got elswhere, and that software is much harder to use and 'glitchy' too with printing and so on.

I design in other materials, such as stainless steel for handrails and stair side-beams on 'posh' retail projects, plus the odd foray into lightweight structures using small diameter square tubing and even ERW.

Is it possible to enter the section properties of say, square or circular section alloy or stainless tubing and obtain suitable results?

If this is too far off the wall or irrelevant I will happily delete the thread, however we are increasingly being asked to design in stainless, plus quite delicate assemblies

Cheers

PS keep up the good work, I retire soon and our business is uncomfortably addicted to your product, so the remaing staff running the business would struggle!

Stainless steel design is quite different to regular mild steel as it yields in a different way - I've never taken time to go into the details though.

Currently most of my time is going into the new Eurocode-based EuroBeam program. Once this is finished and stable - months of work, not weeks - I will look at whether SS design might be added.

Tony,

A year or so ago an update resulted in my losing the useful for me, Circular hollow section and light weight section, I only have UB,UC,RSJ,PFC & CH to select from, are the lighter section gone for good?

Hollow sections are still there. Select Configuration, User Setup, File Names and Locations page. The first item is the steel data file name and location, and it probably ends in uksteel.dta. Press the open file button at the end of the line. In the file dialog that appears, select AdvSteel.dta (you may just need to navigate up or down the folder tree to find it), press OK. Press OK on the User Setup dialog, exit the program and restart and you should see hollow sections.
