I was evaluating on a plank(2x4) spanning ramp joists as a beam its, but did not see how to make a flat profile (1.625" dimension perpendicular to ground, 3.5" parallel, 42" beam supported at both ends, parallel). Is this possible or does the software assume/fix the perpendicular dimension as 3.5"?

Have you tried entering your plank width and thickness using the change std dims radio button on the timber parameters screen?

Apologies for not responding to your question - I have only just found that the part of the system that notifies me of new posts has not been working.

As John says, you can change the standard dimensions that appear in the drop-down lists by pressing the small 'Change Std Dims' button. For a one-off member you don't need to do this as you can enter you own timber width or depth if the value(s) you want are not in the drop-down lists.
