Default Balcony - Balustrades

Hi Over the last few months I have been preparing building regulation applications and quite a number of them have involved balconies / balustrades. I now have a glass balustrade to design and need to prove what is proposed. Neither I or my structural engineer (he has been a SE all his life and he is 70 years old) know how to calculate for this. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Any help would be appreciated.

Outside my experience, I'm afraid, but a Google search on structural glass balustrade design site:uk throws up lots of possibilities. Probably a good case (as with roof trusses) for supplier design.

You need to design for the horizontal loads given in BS6399.

BTW, you must have a non-glass top rail to comply with the building regulations. Should the glass fail the top rail will still give protection from falling.
