Default Mild steel plate padstones

For reason only known to themselves I have builders with some strange request's

Rather than use a 750 long concrete Padstone they wanted a steel plate which turns out to be 100 x 50 thick 750 long

The steel supplier has provided 2 no 25 thick plates tack welded together just wondered what other people think

Thanks

Certainly odd. I suppose to be really thorough the welds should be checked to ensure they provide enough longitudinal shear resistance to make the 2 plates act as 1. Surely a bit of 4 inch box section would be better if they want to use steel? What has Bullding Control said: that might be the determining factor?

Hi Steve

Bco said it was OK provided I wrote letter to say so in effect passed the buck

Couldn't see how 2 plates would work so in the end got 50 thick plate we considered shs but ghey did not have offcut suitable so would have needed to order one in
