Default Update Subscription

My copies of prosteel and superbeam both state in the help-about menu that my subscription ran out in sept 08, however I did renew it so what is going on?

Yes you did renew last year, and new activation keys would have been sent to you at the time. I am re-sending you your current keys: enter these using the Miscellaneous > Enter Activation Key option in each program. You will see the new expiry date in Help > About and will then be able to download the latest releases.
