As these are becoming more popular can this be incorporated into SuperBeam ?

Dear Mike

I await Tony Bryer's authoratative reply but I would have thought not as they are proprietary materials and each manufacturer has their own sizes and to a certain extent marterial properties as the engineering in the differing makes of engineered timber can differ.

I often encounter this problem with builders when wanting to use a concrete lintel to take a specific loading in that I have to know what make of lintel the builder will be using to check it as each manufacturer has different bars, differing pre-tension, differing conc grade etc so that sizes alone do not tell you everything. Only (solid) timber and steel comes in industry wide sizes and strengths.

I have to agree with John - however, most of the 'I' joist manufacturers have their own softawre which will design individual joists and beams. This software is easy to use and specific to the particular 'make' of 'I' joist or beam. The software is free. Hope this helps.

Sorry, missed replying to this one. Yes, for I-beam manufactured joists, you need to follow the manufacturer's design guidance. Checking of rectangular section manufactured timber beams and joists may get added to our forthcoming EuroBeam program at some point, but getting the basics right is enough of a challenge for now!
