Default Service notches and holes in flitch beams

A client has asked me if whether flitch beams can be notched and/or drilled for services, and if so if the rules are the same as for timber joists.

Default Re: Service notches and holes in flitch beams

I suppose it depends on the size of hole you need

Generally the steel plate is 25 less than the timber so if it's only 15mm pipes I would reduce timber depth for a check of plate/timber at same depth so the extra 25mm is not needed and can be notched without affecting the design
