Question ProSteel - cannot spice beam

Trying to splice a 254 x 254 x 89 UC 9.80m length

Error message
'Splice 1 cannot be within L/10 of either end' (it isn't)
Beam length appears to default to zero within the splice tab

Hi Chris

I don't know why the splice is not working but not wanting to teach you to suck eggs etc I would suggest you recheck the deflection on the beam its a very shallow beam for 9.8m span even under its own weight its going to deflect something like 10mm

I am wondering whether its the buckling that throwing the calculations

I've checked it out here and it appears to all work as it should. I'll confirm motorphotos comment re deflection. Although BS5950 only refers to live load deflection, the dead load deflection on a beam like this is, subject to loading, likely to be significant and could have undesirable consequences.
